Marketing your business can be done anywhere and in multiple ways; cost doesn’t need to be an issue.
One of the most important steps to start marketing is Networking. Networking in person or through social media are both important and one should not take the place of the other. Hearing someone speak or complain about their experience in an elevator or at a cafe about a similar business is the perfect time to chime in and let them know about your business. Do not think of it as underhanded as that business already lost that customers trust. It takes time and commitment as you do not always get instant gratification but when you notice it, the results are rewarding and it is an amazing asset.
Another is leveraging your community; your community is your market audience. Leave business cards and flyers with other businesses - get creative on where you leave your ads (i.e. bookmarks with your business information at libraries, etc.). Sponsor a little league, adopt a freeway, join a charity walk to get your name out there; you hit two birds with one stone.
Ask for referrals as the customers you have will definitely know more people that would also want to be your customer. Offer a $5 gift card for a referral, it may not sound like much but if you provide great customer service, your customers will spread the word to others for even that incentive.
Offer coupons to customers. It may seem like you’ll be losing money but in the long run those customers will keep returning even without the use of a coupon. The coupon will attract new customers into the door or have them coming back for a return visit.
Be bold and giveaway your product. That probably isn’t what you’re aiming for as your goal is to make money but if you give it away or give away a sample/ trial, it helps customers decide if they like it. In today’s economy, more people are wary of buying something new. Giving them the chance to try it will make them feel more comfortable with their choice of moving on to what they see is unfamiliar and out of the norm.
Don’t be shy with your marketing techniques as you want it to be heard and seen anywhere and everywhere. It does not need to be expensive marketing as we all know that starting up your business already eats a hole in your bank account. A must in business is that when you see an opportunity open up, go for it!
